E-commerce companies such as Flipkart and Amazon are waiting for more guidelines from the Government of India on resumption of full services

The lockdown in India stands extended once again until 31 May 2020, and the country has now officially entered Lockdown 4.0. The Government of India has issued a list of activities that continue to be prohibited, and has also stated that “all other activities will be permitted, except those which are specifically prohibited.” Although e-commerce activities for delivery on non-essentials are not mentioned in the prohibited list, there continues to be ambiguity over the resumption of full operations as the guidelines also mention that “only essential activities will be allowed in containment zones.”

Apart from e-commerce players such as Flipkart and Amazon, consumers are also looking for more clarity on this issue. Some consumers who have taken to social media have stated that non-essentials they have ordered before the lockdowns were announced in India in March have still not been delivered to them.

“What’s going on with my product? I am already paying EMIs for it and it’s been 3 months now. What is the issue?” asks Vivek Joshi on Twitter. “Did anyone order smartphone with exchange offer in the month of March? Have you received it yet? They are expanding the delivery date for me,” says Ramu like several others on social media.

Flipkart, however, has replied to consumers saying they were waiting for a clear directive from the government of India on the resumption of services. “We understand your concern here. We are working hard to resume all services based on government directives across various locations. Request you to keep checking availability at your pincode as we strive to expand our serviceability,” tweeted the official account of Flipkart.

As of now, the websites of Flipkart and Amazon are still not accepting orders for non-essentials in the Red Zones. More details on the same are awaited, and could be clarified in the days to come.

Update: Amazon is now delivering all products to certain areas. Based on the location, pay on delivery option is available as well.

Flipkart says: We’re complying with the Government’s zonal classification for deliveries in Gree, Orange or Red Zone (Only essentials in this zone). Owing to this, our delivery timelines may get affected.

Customers are advised to check if their PIN is eligible for all deliveries.
